Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab (2025)

We have visited the desert city of Dubai many times, witnessing firsthand how it transformed from a humble fishing village into the miracle metropolis of the Middle East in just two or three decades.

By the end of the last century, facing dwindling oil reserves, Dubai made a decisive pivot, establishing architecture and tourism as the twin pillars of its economy.

And since the completion of the sail-shaped Burj Al Arab Jumeirah in 1999, the city has embraced a bold urban strategy: shaping its future through iconic architecture.

Now an even grander vision of luxury has become reality beside the silhouette of the Burj Al Arab — the final chapter in Jumeirah Group’s ambitious “nautical trilogy” of luxury beachfront destinations in Dubai: Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, which unveiled its long-awaited face to the world in March 2025.

And so, we set out for Dubai once again, traveling into a world of blue and white to experience firsthand this new architectural landmark — a hotel conceived for the lifestyle of the future.

A Superyacht Sailing into the Arabian Gulf

If the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah symbolized Dubai at the close of the 20th century, then Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab marks a new coordinate in the city’s evolving definition of luxury in the 21st.

It feels like a colossal superyacht arriving from the future, anchored at the very edge of the Arabian Gulf.

The architecture was designed by Shaun Killa, the architect behind Museum of the Future. Inspired by the aesthetics of a superyacht, the building expresses a futuristic elegance through sweeping lines and a light, sculptural arched entrance.

The sunlight was falling perfectly across the building’s curves when we arrived — a moment where the fluidity of the sea met the precision of architectural geometry.

The entire hotel resembles a flagship vessel poised to set sail at any moment. Behind it, the supporting facilities continue this “yachting dream”: a superyacht marina with 82 berths, capable of accommodating yachts up to 61 meters in length, complete with maintenance facilities, fueling services, and VIP docking amenities.

The yachts moored along the marina seem to announce the status of their owners to the world. This is not merely a hotel, but an urban oasis created for the ultra-wealthy and for those whose lives are inseparable from the sea.

Reimagining Art and Luxury

Stepping into the lobby, our first reaction was: “It feels like entering a private art museum.”

The hotel’s interior design continues the “luxury yacht” narrative, layering organic wood, marble, and handcrafted textiles to evoke the golden glamour of the great age of sailing.

Suspended beneath the soaring ceiling of the grand lobby is a spectacular chandelier composed of more than 1,500 hand-blown crystal pieces crafted by artisans from the Czech Crystal Valley. As it gently sways, it resembles sunlight shimmering across waves in the sea breeze.

The hotel features 386 guestrooms and suites, along with 82 serviced residences — each one conceived like a privately moored yacht.

Inside, the spaces are infused with a distinctly Italian spirit reminiscent of the 1960s: polished wood surfaces, refined metallic accents, and a restrained sense of luxury.

What impressed us most was the Royal Suite’s 310-square-meter wraparound terrace, seemingly floating above the water’s reflections. The suite can connect with up to five adjoining guestrooms, creating a rare spatial experience designed for true multi-generational luxury travel.

Meanwhile, more than 300 artworks and custom sculptures are displayed throughout the property, indoors and outdoors alike, turning nearly every corner of the hotel into an unexpected visual composition.

We stayed in an Ocean Terrace Room facing the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah. The moment we opened the door, we were greeted by the familiar silhouette framed through floor-to-ceiling glass.

No longer a distant urban icon, the Burj Al Arab became our “neighbor” — the first thing we saw every morning upon waking.

What left an equally lasting impression was the remarkable ceiling height. Compared with nearly every hotel we have stayed at in Dubai, the proportions here felt exceptionally generous, giving the rooms an extraordinary sense of openness and calm.

From the bedroom to the bathroom, every corner and curve feels effortlessly sculpted, elegant without ever appearing deliberate.

A Miracle Oasis in the Heart of Dubai

To create a true oasis in the desert is far more complicated than simply planting trees. Yet Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab has achieved exactly that through an extensive underground irrigation system woven beneath the property.

Jumeirah-Marsa-Al-Arab-Outdoor-Landscape

The hotel’s outdoor landscape feels like a living, breathing oasis — shaded by lush trees, overflowing with flowers and greenery, so immersive that we occasionally forgot we were in the middle of the desert.

In a climate as intensely hot as Dubai’s, maintaining this level of landscaping feels almost unbelievable.

There are five swimming pools across the resort, each with its own distinct personality. The adults-only Kinugawa pool evokes the atmosphere of a hidden Mediterranean members’ club — tranquil, elegant, and rhythmically calm.

Jumeirah-Marsa-Al-Arab-Illiana-Pool

The Illiana pool is reserved exclusively for suite guests and above. Facing directly toward the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah, it offers the highest level of privacy together with one of the most spectacular views in the city.

As we wandered through the hotel’s expansive gardens, we almost lost all sense of being in the Middle Eastern desert.

Four outdoor pools are arranged along different landscape axes: a tropical greenery pool, a serene adults-only retreat, a lively family pool, and a pool bar area — each one feeling as though it had stepped straight out of a scene from Sex and the City.

Hidden within the Talise Spa is a 20-meter indoor pool overlooking the gulf, mirror-like in its stillness and profoundly calming.

In the end, however, Illiana pool became our favorite.

Each lounge chair is paired with its own semi-private resting area, creating a subtle feeling of being gently enveloped and protected.

We loved coming here in the morning to read, then returning at sunset for a glass of lemonade while watching the sky slowly dim into evening.

What makes the greenery throughout the resort so remarkable is not simply the abundance of plants, but the feeling that everything here is truly alive.

The trees stretch naturally toward the light, the flowers bloom freely, and even the air seems infused with moisture and softness. In a desert metropolis like Dubai, this sense of nature feels extraordinarily rare — and undeniably luxurious.

15 Restaurants and Bars

Exceptional dining may be a standard feature of luxury hotels, but one of the most innovative aspects of Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is its entirely new four-in-one culinary concept.

The breakfast venue, known as The Fore, is composed of four distinct restaurants: Madame Li, serving pan-Asian cuisine; The Bombay Club, dedicated to Indian flavors; Mirabelle, a Southern French bistro; and Umi Kei, a contemporary Japanese izakaya.

As morning light pours into the space, the four venues merge into one, creating an extraordinary global breakfast experience for hotel guests.

After lunch, however, movable walls, adjustable ceilings, and carefully orchestrated lighting transform the venue back into four independent restaurants, each with its own atmosphere and identity.

This concept breaks free from the limitations of the traditional all-day dining restaurant, offering a far richer and more diverse culinary journey throughout the day.

Here, we enjoyed freshly prepared Japanese tamagoyaki, Mediterranean-style stews, Arabic flatbreads with tahini, and even freshly shucked oysters alongside chilled lobster.

Yes, lobster appears on the breakfast menu — and not merely as a one-time surprise.

The entire experience carries the atmosphere of a grand feast rather than a conventional breakfast, making an early wake-up call feel entirely worthwhile.

The scale of the dining program is equally impressive, with fifteen restaurants and bars spread throughout the property.

Our favorite dining area here was Iliana. We had spent a week traveling around the Mediterranean before arriving in Dubai, and had fallen in love with the distinctive flavors shaped by sunshine, sea breezes, and coastal traditions.

Iliana brings that authentic Greek spirit to the Middle East, and nearly every dish left a lasting impression.

We would occasionally settle into Rialto Bar for an aperitif in the evenings, watching the marina gradually illuminate as dusk gave way to night.

Moments like these — unhurried, effortless, and deeply enjoyable — feel increasingly rare in the fast pace of modern travel, and perhaps that is their greatest luxury.

Leading the Future of SPA and Wellness

Talise-SPA-in-Jumeirah-Marsa-Al-Arab

When it comes to wellness, the Talise SPA in Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is among the most forward-thinking spa concepts I have ever encountered.

Rather than a traditional spa designed to soothe guests with scented oils and ambient music, it feels more like a destination dedicated to the optimization of both body and mind.

Beyond conventional massages and skincare treatments, the facility incorporates cryotherapy chambers, light therapy, infrared detox treatments, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. On paper, it sounds almost futuristic; in practice, the experience leaves you feeling remarkably refreshed, as though your entire system has been rebooted.

Women-Only-Floor-in-Talise-SPA

There is women-only floor in the Talise SPA, which is an environment defined by privacy and tranquility.

Outside the treatment rooms, a secluded terrace overlooks the Arabian Gulf. After a treatment, we often found ourself sitting there for long stretches of time—our bodies completely relaxed while our thoughts drifted freely toward the horizon.

Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab is more than simply a new luxury hotel to us. It feels like a thoughtful response to the way future generations may choose to live, travel, and restore themselves.

There is nothing ostentatious about the experience.

The hotel does not rely on spectacle or excess to announce its luxury. Instead, it hides sophistication within countless carefully considered details.

Service is discreet. Design is restrained. Space feels liberating. The overall experience is remarkably complete.

Rather than displaying luxury as a status symbol, the hotel allows guests to discover it gradually—in the texture of materials, the quality of light, the rhythm of daily rituals, and the subtle warmth of thoughtful hospitality.

During our visit, we learned a detail that perfectly illustrates the property’s philosophy: despite offering 386 guestrooms and suites, the hotel does not include a conventional conference center.

Instead, a three-level wellness complex occupies a central role within the resort.

Of the hotel’s two principal entrances, one leads directly to the spa lobby and dedicated wellness arrival area—an unusually deliberate choice that reveals just how strongly the property prioritizes restoration, wellbeing, and mind-body balance for its guests.

In many luxury hotels, business facilities remain a defining feature. At Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab, however, wellness has been elevated to equal—if not greater—importance. That decision may ultimately be the clearest expression of the hotel’s vision: a luxury destination designed not around productivity, but around living well.

Ending

On the day we departed, I looked back once more at the silhouette of the Burj Al Arab Jumeirah.

Burj-Al-Arab-Jumeirah

I remembered how, when it first appeared on Dubai’s coastline, it embodied the city’s boldest vision of the future. For years, it stood as the ultimate symbol of ambition, innovation, and possibility.

Today, beside it stands a worthy successor.

Jumeirah Marsa Al Arab does not seek to outshine its iconic neighbor. Instead, it reflects a different understanding of luxury—one that is less concerned with spectacle and more focused on wellbeing, privacy, craftsmanship, and the art of living.

Where is the future?

Perhaps it is here.

Perhaps it exists within a hotel shaped like a superyacht, quietly poised at the edge of the Arabian Gulf, ready to set sail toward a new vision of hospitality.

Not louder. Not bigger.

Simply more attuned to how people aspire to live, travel, and reconnect with themselves.

And as Dubai continues its remarkable evolution, this graceful vessel on the shoreline may well represent the city’s next chapter—one where the future is no longer something to be admired from afar, but something to be experienced, inhabited, and lived.
